About Emma
Emma Bear’s Journey began with one little girl and a family determined to find a way forward.
I am a full-time stay-at-home mom to an absolutely beautiful and amazing girl named Emma. From the very beginning, Emma’s journey has looked different than we imagined it would. She has faced challenges that most children never have to face, but through it all, she has shown us an incredible strength, resilience, and fighting spirit.
Emma has taught us that progress doesn’t always look the way we expect it to. Some days bring exciting breakthroughs. Other days are difficult. But every day has something worth celebrating.
Our journey has introduced us to challenges we never anticipated, but it has also introduced us to incredible people, resources, products, and strategies that have helped Emma navigate everyday life.
This website shares Emma’s journey, as well as the things we’ve learned along the way.
We want other families to know that they aren’t alone. If something we’ve learned can make another family’s day a little easier, then sharing it is worth it.
Emma’s Story
Emma was born with hydrocephalus and later developed Craniosynostosis during her first few months of life. She was also diagnosed with 6q26q27 chromosome deletion and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, an incurable form of epilepsy. She’s been through more in her brief time here than most people will experience in a lifetime. I admire her strength, resilience and fighting spirit. This is her journey, as well as mine.
Why Emma Bear’s Journey?
We call her “Emma Bear” because she has always been our little bear — strong, determined, sweet, and completely herself.
We received a teddy bear for her as a baby gift before she was born. We would ride around with “Bear” in the car seat with Emma, and somehow that little bear became part of our story. We knew it would be her nickname as soon as we met her.
Her journey continues to teach us that there isn’t always one right path. Sometimes you have to create a new one.
